Surge Small Groups

Small groups are beginning today!  Here's the logistics:

1. Small groups are gender-specific. 
2. They are no larger than 6 students.
3. They are led by a trained Surge staff.
4. They meet on Tuesday nights during Surge.
5. They are focused on applying what the Bible says to their daily lives.
6. They exist to help students take their next step with Jesus together with friends.

Same Page

Hey!

If you were at church last Sunday then you got your very own book of John!  For this week, your Same Page reading is to try and read through the book of John.  Does that sound like alot?  Well, it might be easier than you think.  It's only 21 chapters.  So if you read 4 chapters a day you'll be done by this Sunday! 

I'll be doing the same so let's compare notes on Sunday!

This is Catch-up Week!  I know we've been pushing it hard these past 3 weeks.  I want us all to have a chance to read some of the chapters we've missed.  You can find our previous weeks by following the Community Bible Reading link on the left.

Surge is getting on "The Same Page!"   We want to read our Bibles together, as a community! Every week we will update our Community Bible Reading form.  Simply check off the chapters you're able to read.  If you're able to read every chapter, you'll have read the Bible in a year(ish)!  Even if you're able to read one or two chapters a day, we'll still be in God's Word together!

We're doing this because being on the "same page" as a youth group begins with being in the pages of God's word.  We will stay connected by the verses we read each week. 

As you prepare to read your chapters for the day: 

1.  Pray.  Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal God's Word to you!
2.  Be Strategic.  Make it E.P.I.C.?.! 
3.  Worship.  Praise God for who He is and how He is helping you become more like Jesus.  

• E  Did this chapter (or a verse) ENCOURAGE me? The Lord knows exactly what you need!
• P  Does this chapter (or a verse) have a PROMISE for me? What the Lord says He'll do, He'll do!
• I   Did this chapter (or a verse) INSTRUCT me?  What choice can you make based on this?
• C  Did this chapter (or a verse) CHALLENGE me?  Ask for God to give you strength to change!
• ?  Did this chapter (or a verse) leave me with QUESTIONS?  Ask someone for help!

Being on the same page doesn't mean being perfect.  NEWS FLASH - It's difficult to read our Bibles everyday!  I expect a few days may go by sometimes without a single check mark!  Instead of being discouraged, have a plan.  Doing this together as a youth group may help us stay motivated.  You could even ask your family to do this with you!

We don't want you to think that reading your Bible is about checking off a list or completing a homework assignment.  We do believe that reading your Bible is an absolute essential because it's where you learn about the character of God and how He feels about you and how He feels about the world.  

It's not the only thing we must do, but just like bacon (in my opinion) is a part of a balanced breakfast, reading the Bible is a part of a balanced plan to deepen our relationship with God.

Happy Wednesday!

Well, due to the Evil Server Gnome, our internet, printers, mailing lists, peace of mind and ability to communicate with the outside world were rendered useless.  How did we do this (ministry) before the internet anyway?  

But hooray for the Dell Dude who brought his Anti-Evil Server Gnome Spray because we're back! 

We had a fun and meaningful Tuesday night Surge.  We talked about the opportunity to be the person that God wants us to be through repentance and the understanding that it's absolutely impossible to be "good enough" by our own effort.  

Basically, we need Jesus.  

Next week is our Back to School Bash!  You can find more information about it by following the link on the right hand column.  Bring your friends!

Also, be aware that Surge Challenge has changed it's time to 11am to 12:30pm, Sunday mornings.  This coincides with the new time change for Grace Chapel's main service.

Fall Kick-Off BBQ

Hey Surge!

I'm looking forward to seeing you all tonight!  Be ready for some good, old-fashioned hamburgers: Josh Campbell style.

The BBQ starts at 7:00 tonight and not a minute later (or sooner)!  After we eat we'll have some fun "get-to-know" you games.

I'm also excited to talk to you about our Surge Life Groups which will start September 29.  You'll want to be here for that alone!

I hope you're excited for church at Hunter Creek Farms this Sunday.  It's going to be awesome.  Just like every year, let's pray for good weather and for people to come hungry to worship God.  As part of the festivities, I've been asked to help with family games afterwards.  We're going to have a punt pass and kick competition and a couple other family-friendly games.  

WOULD YOU CONSIDER HELPING US THIS SUNDAY?  

If you would like to help run the games, set-up and tear down, it would be such a huge "assist" to us.  Please email BJ if you'd like to help.  It's going to be after the baptisms and lunch.

Hey Everybody!

Well if you all read Numbers 22 yesterday you read about a talking Donkey!  

If you didn't, you're thinking, "What? A talking Donkey?!?"  You should read the chapter if you have time today because it is an entertaining and applicable story.
